Horse Shows
(hôrs shōz):
Sporting events in which horses and usually riders are judged on their skills in a variety of competitions such as riding or jumping.
 

About the Department
The horse show department will have some of the best horses in the Ventura and surrounding county, showing, competing and exhibiting. There will be something different each day. You will see The Majestic Friesian’s, all types of carriages and the horses that pull them from ponies to the largest of draft horses. There is a competitive English Jumping show for 2 days with such refined horses as Thoroughbreds and warm bloods. The noble Mules with their intelligence and versatility will compete in agility and performance with added classes this year for more fun. And let’s not forget the cowboys and cowgirls with their working horses with Team Penning and Team Sorting, a true cowboy tradition. Also the last few days will be the finally of Cowboys with one of the oldest true working horses with roping of cattle and some fun and games for both children and adults on horseback. You can walk the barn isles and watch the exhibitors get there horses ready for the show. You can see the Wonderful world of horses live and in person free with your paid admission into the Best Fair, the Ventura County Fair.

MEET THE DEPARTMENTS

 

Superintendent
Jim Rochford
Jim is in his 4th year as Ventura County Fair Horse Show Superintendent, for 11 years prior to that he was Ventura County Fair Horse Show Announcer. Jim has chaired the Ventura County Fair Draft, Carriage and Mule Show for 5 Years.

Lived in Ventura County for 25 years, he has been a Santa Monica Mounted Reserve Police since 2003, a 10 year member of Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge # 3722, and for the past 15 years has been an instructor of the Conejo Riders Equestrian Drill Team.

Jim was born in Floyd, Virginia and was raised by his family in Radford Virginia until age 13, when his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he started riding horses and general horsemanship. He moved to California at age 17 years old where he met his wife of 36 years. They have 2 daughters, ages 29 and 35 years old, and one grandson who is now 14 years old.
