About the Department
The Large Livestock department is one of the busiest departments at the Fair! There’s always action as exhibitors hustle and bustle around the fairgrounds taking care of their animals. You’ll always see someone walking a cow, or blow-drying a sheep, or grooming a pig. That’s normal procedure around here!
Did you know that 200 years ago the first fair featured a beautiful specimen of sheep tied to a tree in the town square? Livestock is and always has been the mainstay of the country fair.
Our livestock exhibits are clean and attractive so the visitor will get a good look at your animals
This year the Fair Theme is “The Bounty of the County”, and that is what the Large Livestock Department is all about. Look at the Entry Guide, located on this website for all of the details. |

Superintendent
Chris Garmon
Hello, my name is Chris Garmon. In one way or another I have been involved with the Large Livestock Department for the past 20 years. I showed everything from Market Goats in Briggs 4-H to Market Steers in Santa Paula FFA and earned my American Farmer Degree. Upon graduating high school, I became a leader in Briggs 4-H and Mupu 4H. I was a 3rd generation showman at the Ventura County Fair and now I am honored to be the Large Livestock Superintendent. Growing up on the family ranch, tending to livestock is like 2nd nature and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. |
